DARK SIDE ZOMBIES

By Fred Furtado

This scenario is based on the Unisystem Star Wars rules. It was originally intended to be pulished in the Unisystem APAzine, but that project was cancelled. So, I decided to post it here. The zombie rules are from All Flesh Must Be Eaten.

Enjoy it!

Ullan Tesh was a Jedi Knight who lived 2,000 years before the Battle of Yavin. Ullan believed the Jedis should be more proactive in their mission to preserve justice in the galaxy. When General Garl Dasal seized control of the planet Orbania in a bloody coup, the Jedi Council sent Ullan as a mediator. However, after witnessing Dasal’s cruelty, Ullan decided a more direct approach was necessary. The Jedi Knight allied himself to the Orbanian rebel forces and waged war on Dasal. The conflict lasted several months. As Ullan became ever more passionate about the conflict, he sunk deeper into the Dark Side. Finally, Ullan, totally consumed by the Dark Side, became so inhuman that Dasal’s forces and the rebels united against him. Ullan and the followers he had gained during the campaign fled Orbania in a Dreadnought-class starship, with the united forces hot on their heels. The ship jumped into hyperspace, but not before being severely damaged. That was the last anyone heard of the Fallen Jedi Ullan Tesh.

The story did not end then, though. The massive damage the ship sustained took its toll on the hyperdrive. The drive fused, dropping the ship in the void of interstellar space. Without any means of fixing the hyperdrive and not enough power to activate the backup, it soon became clear to all the ship would be their home and, in the future, their grave. In the following months, the situation deteriorated. Supplies were lower than expected and soon ran out. Fights ensued, and even cannibalism. Not even Ullan’s power was able to stop the madness. So he locked himself in the bridge and waited . Although he could try to contact the Jedi Council with his telepathy, Ullan didn’t trust it, since he had refused the Council’s contacts during the Orbanian war. One year after leaving hyperspace, everyone in the ship, including Ullan, was dead.

The agony, pain and hopelessness of his death, coupled with his deep connection to the Dark Side, anchored Ullan’s soul to the aging ship. For the next 1,500 years, Ullan’s consciousness merged with the dreadnaught, stretching his mind thin and amplifying his madness. One day, another ship dropped out of hyperspace. The ship, a small freighter, docked on Ullan’s ship and its crew began exploring the abandoned hulk. The presence of life drove Ullan into a frenzy of hatred and hunger. Concentrating all his will into consuming life, Ullan unwittingly focused the Dark Side energy into the thousands of corpses in the ship, animating small pockets of them. These he used to attack and kill the explorers. Amazed by this new turn of events, Ullan spent lots of time perfecting this new ability. He also became aware of other dim consciousnesses: some of his followers lingered in the ship after death as well. Ullan learned that he could channel these minds into reanimated bodies, thus creating more powerful creatures. Finally, Ullan devised a way to capture ships out of hyperspace. Using potent Force Powers like Farseeing and Create Gravity Well, he would not only force ships into real space, but damage their hyperdrives, forcing them to dock on the dreadnought.

In the last 500 years, 8 ships and their crews fell prey to Ullan and his Dark Side zombies. The killings have given Ullan a new purpose. Now he waits for a Force-Sensitive victim he can corrupt and possess, to finally leave the confines of the dreadnaught and take the galaxy by assault.

Notes:
Ullan’s incorporeal state severely limits his powers. Aside form his Force powers, which take several Turns of concentration to use, Ullan has access to the ship’s systems and energy distribution network. He can activate or deactivate specific systems throughout the ship by regulating the energy flow. Since he only has access to power generators, he doesn’t have much energy to work with. He can move one turret and fire one weapon at a time, open and close doors, and block access to certain sections, but using maneuver thrusters and the ion engines is beyond Ullan’s power.
