 Filho de Otto e Nadja Wurfel, Erik teve a infância e adolescência tranqüilas num subúrbio de Hamburgo, até a noite em que seus pais foram mortos. Era a véspera de Natal e seus pais estavam na sala decorando a casa, enquanto Erik estava em seu quarto escutando música, meditando na estupidez de se celebrar o aniversário de um deus morto na data de um festival pagão. Erik, então, escutou sua mãe gritar e se levantou indo em direção a porta do quarto. Foi quando notou um brilho vermelho em seu quarto e caiu em direção ao teto. Depois disso só se lembra de estar na sala com um policial o sacudindo. Seus pais estavam destroçados e Erik estava coberto de sangue negro e mal cheiroso.
