UNISYSTEM WRITE-UPS:

MARVEL

This page contains write-ups of famous characters from Marvel comic books for the Unisystem. Obviously, some traits have to be created from scratch, especially where super-heroes are concerned. These will be revisioned as Eden Studios releases the generic system books.

Due to different power levels represented in the Marvel Universe and the DC Universe, some write-ups will have notes at the end to adjust the power level of a character in case you want to insert him or her into a DC-based campaign.

Clicking on the images will take you to the charcater's offical bio at Marvel.

Adamantium-Vibranium Shield [3/10/20/30/40, AV 90, D6 x 6 (18) blunt, or slashing AP], Modern Chainmail vest [D6+6 (9), No Encumbrance (Normal bullets do not halve its AV)]
Notes:
The shield’s AV value is optional. As I understand it, if Cap successfully blocks an attack with the shield, he takes no damage, since it’s unbreakable and capable of dispersing kinetic energy (at least it was, until a few years ago). He cannot use it for attack and defense in the same Turn, either one or the other. The shield’s damage is usually blunt, but Cap can wield it so it does slashing AP damage (a modifier of -2 might apply). In games where there’s a distinction between bashing and lethal damage, the slashing shield is killing.
To simulate Cap’s shield-bouncing maneuver, apply a cumulative -2 for every bounce after the first. It usually takes a minimum of two bounces to make the shield return. Every bounce after after the first also decreases the damage multiplier by 1. Example: Cap wants to hit two A.I.M. goons by throwing his shield and have it return to him. The Chronicler tells him that will require an extra bounce, so the final penalty is -4, 0 for the first goon, -2 for the second and another -2 to make the shield return. Cap rolls a 4 and adds his Dex of 6 and Hand Weapons (Shield) of 12, and subtracts 4, for a final result of 18. Cap hits the two goons, the first one taking (D6+2) x 6 and the second one (D6+2) x 5. Had Cap scored only 12 (a real bad day for him :), he would still have hit the A.I.M. goons, but the shield would be on the floor next to them.

Notes:
Based on this line from the Armageddon playtest file "A few people with "freakish" Attributes may exceed it (to level 7)", I decided to give Strange a Willpower of 7. All sources state that Strange is a normal human despite all his powers. However, in order to survive and keep his sanity as Sorcerer Supreme of Earth, he must have the strongest Willpower possible in the human race, hence the 7.

Spellcasting in the Marvel Universe

In the Marvel Universe, many magical effects can be accomplished by calling on an extra-dimensional (ED) entity. This has the advantage of not taxing the caster’s personal energy (i.e., the Essence to power the Invocation comes directly from the entity). On the other hand, this may attract unwanted attention on the caster. To call on an ED entity, the caster must succeed in a Spirit Mastery (Extra-dimensional Entity) + Willpower Task. Effects require at least 2 Success Levels, with most being 3+. Failures will depend on the relationship between the caster and the entity. Friendly entities (those listed as Contacts) may still provide the effect, but with much less power. Neutral entities will just ignore the caster. Unfriendly entities can react as either Neutral or Hostile, the Chronicler sould decide based on the previous history between the caster and the entity. Altenatively, he can roll a D10: 1-7 the entity is Neutral, 8-10 the entity is Hostile. Finally, Hostile entities send swift retribution to the caster: the can open a gateway to the place where the caster is, they can add the caster’s opponents or, in the case of dimensions, they can suck the caster into them. Be creative.

ED Contacts are bought like normal Contacts, but must be at least 5. Every two full points above 5, give the caster a +1 when casting the Spirit Mastery Invocation to call that entity.

ED entities are a varied lot. They can be beings, objects, or even places, like the dimension Raggadorr. They are usually in the Greater Old Gods — Sephyr power level, but there are exceptions, like Dormammu, who is an ED mortal who achieved enough power to rank as an Incarnate.
