50007.3 "The Luetkan Incident, part 1"
Story by Ricardo "Barney" Reis
The USS Highflyer's first mission is to take a Vulcan diplomat to mediate a trade agreement between the planet Annuli and the Federation. When the ship rendezvous with the diplomat's runabout, a sudden explosion occurs. At the focal point of the explosion, the crew finds an egg-shaped object. Inside it, there is a dying blue humanoid with several cybernetic attachments. Dr. Cruz manages to stabilize the humanoid, but it is unable to bring him out of the coma. Meanwhile, the diplomat and his assistant are beamed down to the planet. The crew receives orders to head to Deltari IV to investigate the impounding and arrest of the Starfleet medical ship USS Sabin and its crew. Apparently, the planetary authorities are accusing the ship's crew of running Federation phasers to a rebel faction responsible for terrorist attacks. Deltari IV is a border territory of the decadent Luetkan empire that is getting less and less attention from the imperial government, and the rebels want to speed up this proccess.

50012.7 "The Luetkan Incident, part 2"
Story by Ricardo "Barney" Reis
Commander Sanvak, Lieutenat Damien and Dr. Cruz cooperate with Deltari IV's police force in trying to track the origin of the phasers. While on orbit, the Highflyer locates a Ferengi D'Kora-class ship. When contacted, they state that they are doing nothing. Capt. Weygand decides to make a show of force and makes the Highflyer pass "very close" to the Ferengi ship. Back on Deltari IV, the joint efforts of the Highflyer's officers and the police pay off as they locate and, after a firefight, arrest one of the terrorists. Eventually, it is revealed that the rebels did not stage the attacks using the phasers. They were made by criminals being paid by one of the imperial representatives on the planet. He did not want the empire to relinquish its hold on Deltari IV and end his privileges. So he devised the plan of simulating an increase in rebel activity, hoping to make the empire augment its presence in the planet. The phasers were really from the Federation, but were smuggled in the ship disguised as part of a medicine cargo to Deltari IV. Solving the case benefits doubly the Federation, as the Ferengi were broadcasting the events to Annuli, hoping to expose any forceful tactics the Highflyer's crew came to use in order to free the Starfleet officers. The Ferengi had an interest in not seeing Annuli establishing a trade agreement with the Federation, but their plan backfired.

50136.0 "Secrets..."
Story by Fred Furtado
Captain Weygand is summoned to an important reunion and leaves Sanvak as Acting Commanding Officer and Lt.Cmdr. Piotr Dostoievsky as exec. While the Highflyer is heading to the Epsilon Indi system, it detects a massive explosion in the Alpha Charybidys system. The fourth planet of this system houses a Starfleet outpost engaged in astronomical research. Arriving at the planet, the crew witness a major space-time rift located where the orbital station sould be. Rescue teams beam down to the support station on the planet and manage to find ten survivors. They don't know what happened, but suppose that the antimatter chamber on the orbital station exploded. However, the crew concludes that such an explosion wouldn't create the rift. Meanwhile, another Starfleet ship arrives, the USS Gilgamesh. Its captain, Draxx, tells Sanvak that he has orders to take the survivors and all the data gathered from the outpost's computer. Sanvak keeps a copy of the records, which he had been ordered to delete, but beams the survivors over, except for one deemed unstable by Dr. Cruz. Draxx beams the last survivor nonetheless and leaves. Sanvak follows, but is advised by his crew to return to Alpha Charybidys IV in order to deal with the rift that is expanding. Back on the planet, they separate the saucer section and the engineering hull, with only and skeleton crew, enters the rift. They use the warp field to seal the rift and leave, suffering some damage in the proccess. Then, they head to Starbase 622, the probable destination of the Gilgamesh.

Story by Fred Furtado
At Starbase 622, Sanvak and Lt. Motat contact Adm. Jered and find out, through his Chief of Operations, Cmdr. Axwan, that the survivors were transferred to the USS Republic. The Highflyer intercepts the Republic, but does not find the survivors. According to the Republic's commanding officer, Capt. Rragarr, no one was transferred to his ship. Sanvak contacts Adm. Baxter in Starfleet Command and asks for a full investigation. Baxter tells him to go back to Starbase 622 and wait for the Judge Advocate General representative he will send. Halfway through, the Highflyer receives an emergency signal form the USS Saragosa. Suspecting that this is a maneuver to delay them, but unable to refuse aid, Sanvak helps the ship. However he sends Dostoievsky, and an Away Team to the Starbase to keep an eye on things. The Highflyer rescues the Saragosa and tows it back to the Starbase. There, Sanvak and Motat convince Jered to let them scan the Starbase with the Highflyer's sensors. They fail to find the survivors.

50163.0 "...and Conspiracies"
Story by Fred Furtado
Capt. Izana Kex, from the Judge Advocate General's office, arrives at Starbase 622 and interrogates all officers involved. Meanwhile, Sanvak, Motat and Cruz keep trying to find the survivors. They deduce that the survivors are still aboard the Gilgamesh, but don't know how to prove it. During Motat's statement, Draxx's is found dead. Apparently, he was killed by a phaser shot. Kex declares an alert and orders all the arsenals locked. Back in the Highflyer, Dostoievsky informs Sanvak that a phaser and the two officers guarding the arsenal are missing. A complete search of the ship yields no results. Further incidents force Sanvak to call Dostoievsky to attention. During that, Motat investigates the shuttle that Dostoievsky had activated and finds ten torpedo casings. Inside the casings are the survivors in a state of suspended animation. Motat warns Sanvak and at the same time Dostoievsky pulls out a phaser and threatens the commanding officer. On the bridge, Sanvak tries to disarm Dostoievsky, but fails, and two security officers die trying to help him. The Chief of Security calls an emergency transport and beams Dostoievsky to the brig. Dr. Cruz examines Dostoievsky and finds out that he is infected by the same alien parasite that infiltrated Starfleet Command in 2364 ("Conspiracy"). The crew informs Kex and the conspiracy is revealed. Adm. Jered, Capt. Stewart of the Saragosa, Cmdr. Axwan, Adm Darzan of Starbase 621 and Draxx were all infected by the parasites when they were in Starfleet Intelligence. After the first conspiracy was discovered, they disguised their presence and initiated Project Interference, that sought a way to enhance subspace communications in order to contact their race. Then they arranged assignments that put them in positions to supervise their project. When the Highflyer's crew got close to finding out the truth, they extracted the parasite from Draxx and put it in Dostoievsky, so thet they could use him to "smuggle" the survivors aboard the Highflyer.
After evaluating Motat's record, Sanvak decides to promote him to Lieutenant Commander.

50245.2 "Demon Hunt, part 1"
Story by Fred Furtado
Captain Weygand is still away at Starfleet Command.
Responding to a distress signal, the Highflyer rescues a human from the attack of a Triangle-based ship. The human, Trent, tells the crew that he is a merchant who fell through a wormhole and ended up in the Delta Quadrant. There he discovered that a powerful and highly advanced species, the Kiben, made a pact with a Romulan admiral, Nepex, giving him access to technology in exchange for the obliteration of the human race. The crew is skeptical, even more so when they find out that Trent's ship is stolen, but decides to check out the story and heads to Krytos II, in the Triangle. Meanwhile, Dr. Cruz discovers that Trent is at the apex of human physical fitness. At Krytos II, Trent's story falls apart, but he manages to convince Sanvak to head to the Pardok system, also in the Triangle, where he says is located Nepex's base. Not trusting Trent and thinking that he is hiding something, Sanvak orders him to take off his gloves, which he was very reticent to do before. He refuses and proves to be very resilient, resisting phaser stun settings and lack of oxygen. Eventually, Trent escapes his room and invades the computer core, taking control of peripheral systems.

50258.7 "Demon Hunt, part 2"
Story by Fred Furtado
Trent calls Sanvak and Motat to the computer core saying that he will reveal the true story. He, or rather his glass hand, tells them that in 2860 the Kiben will attack the Federation, cutting a path of death and destruction across the Alpha quadrant. They will arrive at Terra to enslave humanity, but they will find a dead planet. Humankind, knowing that its fate under Kiben rule would not be a pleasant one, constructed Trent, and android, and transformed itself, all its 8 billion humans, in energy patterns that were stored in a filament in Trent's chest. Then, a radioactive plague that killed every living being was released on the planet and Trent was sent to 1960, to wait until the plague was gone, in 3160. Trent then tells the two Starfleet officers that the Kiben are trying to change history by aiding the Romulans. Convinced by Trent's story and the sensor scans Motat made on Trent, Sanvak orders the ship to go to the Pardok system. During the trip, Trent makes some modifications to the ship's shields and sensors in order to help them in a possible fight. Arriving at Pardok, the Highflyer has to engage two Apro'ridex-class ships. The Highflyer defeats them, but has to face a modified Warbird. Sensing that the Highflyer won't last long, Trent suggests that he be beamed aboard the Warbird. Thanks to a daring maneuver by Sanvak and an exemplary transport by Chief Chandrasekhar, Trent is beamed aboard the Warbird. Trent takes control of the ship and destroys it. The Highflyer boards the orbiting station and, eventually, contacts the Romulan Empire. Trent asks and is granted possession of a captured Romulan scout vessel. He then leaves for the Triangle. The Highflyer returns to Starbase 622 to be repaired.
After seeing the mission and the captain's logs, Adm. Baxter decides to end the shakedown cruise and comission the Highflyer. He also promotes Sanvak to Captain and assigns him as commanding officer of the Highflyer. Sanvak in turn, promotes Chief Chandrasekhar to Ensign.
