Change Log

05-Jun-02: 1.0 version

Dice Pools are a SR mechanic that can be easily translated to the Unisystem. These Pools represent bonuses that can be used by the characters in Tasks/Tests during specific actions, increasing the cinematic feel of the game. The Pools refresh with each Turn. There are 5 Pools: Astral Combat, Combat, Control, Hacking and Spell.

Astral Combat: This Pool is actually a subset of the Combat pool and relates to combat Tasks/tests made on the astral plane. [Int+(Will x 2)]/2, round down.

Combat: Bonuses from this Pool can be used in any offensive or defensive combat-related Task/Test. They can also be used for Survival Tests. Combat pool bonuses for offensive Tasks are limited by the rating of the Skill being used. Heavy armor decreases a character’s Combat Pool. (Dex+Int+Will)/2, round down.

Control: Used by riggers in Tasks to control a rigged vehicle. Control pool bonuses are limited by the rating of the Skill plus the VCR Rating being used. (Dex+Int/2)+VCR, round down.

Hacking: This Pool is used for any Task made in the Matrix. Hacking Pool bonuses for Tasks are limited by the rating of the Skill being used. (Int+MPCP Rating)/2, round down.

Spell: Bonuses from this Pool can be used in Sorcery Focus and Dismissal Tasks. It can also be used in Spell defense. Spell Pool bonuses for Sorcery Tasks are limited by the rating of the Sorcery Skill. (Int+Will)/2, round down.

Finally, there is also a Karma Pool. Each character starts with 1 point in this Pool. It can be used in different ways. For every 20 (10 for humans) Karma (Experience) points earned, the character gains 1 more point to the Pool.

Cash: At character creation, the player has the option of "buying" cash to invest in equipment and cyberware. It has 5 levels that cost 2 points each. Level 1 gives 5,000, level 2 20,000, level 3 90,000, level 4 400,000 and level 5 1,000,000.

The Shadowrun Companion lists several Qualities and Drawbacks (called Edges & Flaws) that are appropriate to the game and can expand those listed in Unisystem books.
